Introduction 9:00-9:15

I. Accessing Information 9:15-10:30

We examine methods for the discovery and retrieval of information including the databases of the Five Colleges of Ohio and OhioLINK as well as resources on the web. Possibilities featured in this session include:
Professor Ric Sheffield (sociology at Kenyon) discusses his use of online library resources in his course, "Race, Ethnicity and American Law." Ric is joined by Priscilla Mcintosh, Social Science librarian at Kenyon, in this presentation.

Professor Walter Shriner (biology at Denison) demonstrates several electronic reserves in several course settings.

Susan Scott (Library Instruction Coordinator at Denison) discusses the development and use of library resources as web pages for courses

Program director Scott Siddall leads a discussion about the pitfalls and potentials of the use of web resources in classes.

II. Using Information 10:45-12:00

These learning technologies enable us to work with information that we have found, to create complex problem-solving exercises, and to organize information in productive ways:
Professor Judy Holdener (mathematics at Kenyon) discusses innovative uses of technology in computer-based calculus courses.

Professor Ross Laroe (economics at Denison) shows how he uses spreadsheets in courses that study costs in the real world.

Professor Eduardo Jaramillo (modern languages at Denison) demonstrates uses of multimedia in courses through his CD-ROM based project, "Silva, thread of a shadow."

Professor Charles O’Keefe (modern languages at Denison) leads a discussion about the development and use of interactive software in language classes.

III. Sharing and Publishing 1:15-2:00

These tools make it possible to share easily our findings, to communicate with students and colleagues, to encourage students to engage with course materials outside of class, and to publish on the web:
Professor Laurie Finke (women’s studies at Kenyon) and Professor Jennifer Hall-Witt (history at Denison) describe the pedagogical implications of their uses of e-mail and listservers to enhance courses

Professor David Marcey (biology at Kenyon) leads a discussion about online syllabi and student-faculty publications on the web as course assignments.

IV. Collaborating and Teaching 2:30-3:15

In this session, we focus on technologies to foster collaborative learning within and beyond the classroom, and to enhance learning by sharing resources between campuses:
Professor Howard Sacks (sociology at Kenyon) leads a discussion about the pedagogical outcomes from uses of web technology in "The Family Farm" project.

Professors Will Scott and Peter Rutkoff(history at Kenyon) describe the exciting pedagogical implications behind the production of the "North-by-South" web site.

Scott Siddall provides an overview of video conferencing technologies and discuss the collaborative course offerings proposed by our faculties for the fall of 1999.
